Accessibility

Our commitment to making BrightRoots accessible to all users.

Accessibility Statement

BrightRoots is committed to ensuring that our website, programs, and facilities are accessible to all people, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that every family deserves equal access to the resources and support that help children thrive, and we work continuously to remove barriers that might prevent anyone from fully participating in our community.

Web Accessibility Standards

We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level, the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility. Our ongoing efforts include:

  • Meaningful text alternatives for all images, icons, and non-text content
  • Keyboard navigation support throughout the site so that all features and content can be accessed without a mouse
  • Sufficient color contrast between text and background colors to ensure readability for users with low vision or color vision deficiencies
  • Resizable text that can be enlarged up to 200 percent without loss of content or functionality
  • Descriptive headings and labels that provide clear structure and make it easy to navigate using assistive technologies
  • Accessible forms with clearly associated labels, instructions, and error messages
  • Captions and transcripts for multimedia content when available
  • Consistent and predictable navigation across all pages
  • Compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies

We regularly test our website using a combination of automated tools, manual review, and assistive technology testing to identify and address accessibility issues.

Plain Language Commitment

We believe that clear communication is a form of accessibility. BrightRoots is committed to using plain, straightforward language across our website, printed materials, and program communications. We avoid jargon, use short sentences when possible, and organize information so that it is easy to find and understand. If any content on our site is unclear, please let us know and we will work to improve it.

Translations and Language Access

Our community includes families who speak many different languages, and we are committed to making our programs and information available to all of them. Key materials and web content are available in English and Spanish, and we provide translation and interpretation services for other languages upon request. If you need information in a language other than English, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Program and Facility Accessibility

Our commitment to accessibility extends beyond the web. The BrightRoots Community Learning Center and our partner locations are designed to be welcoming and accessible to everyone:

  • Physical accessibility: Our main facility is wheelchair accessible, with ramp entry, accessible restrooms, and barrier-free classrooms and meeting spaces
  • Assistive listening: Assistive listening devices are available for workshops and events upon request
  • Service animals: Service animals are welcome at all BrightRoots locations and events
  • Flexible accommodations: We are happy to provide accommodations such as large-print materials, reserved seating, sensory-friendly spaces, and individualized support for participants with specific needs
  • Transportation support: We work with community partners to help families access transportation to our programs when needed

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, and we welcome your feedback. If you encounter any barriers while using our website or participating in our programs, or if you need an accommodation that we have not listed here, please contact us:

Continuous Improvement

We recognize that accessibility is a journey, not a destination. We are committed to regularly reviewing and improving our digital and physical spaces, training our staff on accessibility best practices, and listening to the people we serve. If you have suggestions for how we can do better, we want to hear from you.

Thank you for helping us build a community where everyone belongs.
