Professional Development
Our professional development catalog covers a broad spectrum of topics relevant to early childhood education, updated annually to reflect current research, policy changes, and field priorities. All sessions are facilitated by experienced practitioners, researchers, or subject-matter experts with deep roots in the early childhood community.

Session Formats
Professional development is offered in multiple formats to accommodate different schedules and learning preferences:
- Half-Day Workshops (3 hours): Focused, topic-specific sessions ideal for introduction to new concepts or skill refreshers. Offered monthly on the third Friday of each month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Full-Day Institutes (6 hours): Deep-dive sessions with extended practice time, case studies, and collaborative planning. Offered quarterly.
- Virtual Webinars (90 minutes): Live online sessions with interactive Q&A, available for educators who cannot attend in person. Recordings are available for 30 days after the live session.
- Multi-Session Series (4-6 weeks): Sustained learning cohorts that meet weekly to explore a topic in depth, complete between-session assignments, and build peer learning communities.
Certification Programs
BrightRoots partners with accredited institutions to offer certification pathways for early childhood professionals at multiple career stages.
Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential Support
We provide a comprehensive CDA preparation program that includes 120 hours of formal training across the eight CDA subject areas, guided portfolio development, and mentored observation hours. Our pass rate for CDA candidates exceeds 95 percent. The program runs in two cohorts per year, beginning in January and September, with sessions held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
Infant-Toddler Specialist Certificate
This 60-hour certificate program focuses on the unique developmental needs of children from birth to age three. Topics include brain development in the first 1,000 days, responsive caregiving, safe sleep practices, infant mental health, and creating nurturing environments for very young children. The program is offered annually each spring.
Leadership in Early Childhood Certificate
Designed for educators moving into administrative or leadership roles, this program covers program management, staff supervision and coaching, family engagement strategies, regulatory compliance, and advocacy for early childhood policy. The certificate requires 80 hours of coursework and a capstone project. It is offered each fall in partnership with the local community college.
Continuing Education Units
All BrightRoots professional development sessions carry continuing education units (CEUs) recognized by the state licensing board. Participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of each session documenting the number of clock hours earned. Our CEU tracker system allows educators to maintain a digital record of all training completed through BrightRoots, which can be exported for licensing renewals and employer verification. BrightRoots is an approved training provider for the state Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), and participation in our programs can contribute to higher quality ratings for your center or program.
Classroom Resources
BrightRoots maintains a curated collection of classroom resources available to educators in our network at no cost.

Partnership Models
BrightRoots works with childcare centers, Head Start programs, school districts, and family childcare networks through several partnership models designed to embed quality improvement directly into practice settings.
On-Site Coaching: Our instructional coaches visit partner sites on a regular schedule to observe classroom practice, provide reflective feedback, model strategies, and collaborate on goal setting. Coaching engagements typically last six to twelve months and are customized based on program needs and priorities.
Community of Practice Groups: Educators from multiple programs come together monthly to discuss common challenges, share successes, and learn from each other through facilitated peer learning. Groups are organized by role (lead teachers, assistants, administrators) and meet at the BrightRoots center or virtually.
Program Consultation: BrightRoots consultants partner with center directors and program administrators to conduct program assessments, develop improvement plans, prepare for accreditation, and navigate regulatory requirements. Consultation services are available on a project basis or through ongoing retainer agreements.
Student Teacher Placements: We collaborate with local colleges and universities to host student teachers and practicum students in our programs, providing mentored field experiences that support the next generation of early childhood professionals.
