As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on what an extraordinary twelve months it has been for BrightRoots. Every year brings its own challenges and triumphs, but 2024 stands out as a year when our community truly came together to create something remarkable for the children and families we serve.

I am proud to share some of the highlights from the past year, not just because numbers tell an important story, but because behind every number is a child who learned something new, a family that found support, and a community that grew stronger.

Children and Families Served

In 2024, BrightRoots programs reached 342 children across all of our offerings. This represents a fifteen percent increase over the previous year, driven largely by the expansion of our Nature Explorers program and the launch of our new Saturday morning family workshops.

We served 278 families, many of whom participated in multiple programs throughout the year. Ninety-two percent of our families reported that their child showed measurable developmental progress during their time at BrightRoots, and eighty-eight percent said they felt more confident in supporting their child's learning at home.

Program Milestones

Our Early Learning program continued to be the backbone of our work, serving children ages two through five in a play-based, developmentally rich environment. This year, we added a second afternoon session to accommodate growing demand and reduce our waitlist.

The Reading Buddies program paired 45 children with trained volunteer reading mentors for weekly one-on-one sessions. Participating children showed an average thirty percent improvement in vocabulary assessments over the course of the program year.

Nature Explorers expanded from a seasonal offering to a year-round program, thanks to the completion of our outdoor classroom in June. The new space has been transformational, allowing children to engage with nature in every season and weather condition.

Our parent workshop series hosted twelve events throughout the year, covering topics from early literacy to nutrition to managing screen time. Average attendance was thirty-five participants per workshop, and post-event surveys consistently showed high satisfaction and self-reported behavior change.

Community Partnerships

We deepened our partnership with the Riverside Public Library, which provided over 500 curated books to our classrooms and hosted four family events at the library branch. Our collaboration with the Riverside Health Clinic brought developmental screenings to 120 children, identifying early intervention needs for eighteen families who were connected with appropriate services.

We also launched a new partnership with three local employers to offer BrightRoots enrollment priority and sliding-scale tuition to their employees, making our programs accessible to more working families.

Financial Stewardship

Total revenue for 2024 was $1.2 million, reflecting growth in both program fees and philanthropic support. Individual donations increased by twenty-two percent, and we secured two new multi-year grants from regional foundations. Eighty-four cents of every dollar went directly to program delivery, and we ended the year with a healthy operating reserve that positions us well for continued growth.

Volunteers and Supporters

None of this work is possible without the people who give their time, talent, and treasure to BrightRoots. In 2024, 87 volunteers contributed a combined 3,400 hours of service. Our annual gala raised over $150,000, and our spring giving campaign brought in support from 310 individual donors.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we look to the year ahead, we are planning to expand our infant and toddler programming, deepen our family engagement offerings, and invest in professional development for our teaching team. We are also exploring the possibility of a second location to serve families on the west side of our community.

Thank you to every family, volunteer, donor, partner, and staff member who made 2024 a year to remember. Your investment in early childhood is an investment in the future, and we are deeply grateful to walk this path alongside you.

Here is to another year of growth, learning, and community.
