Parent Resource Library

BrightRoots believes that every family deserves access to high-quality tools and information to support their child's development. Our Parent Resource Library offers a curated collection of books, activity kits, developmental toys, printable guides, and community resource connections, all available at no cost to families in our community.


Lending Library

Children's Books

Our collection includes over 2,000 titles for children from birth through age five, organized by age, topic, and reading level. Board books, picture books, concept books, and early readers are all available for three-week loans.

Activity Kits

Take-home kits designed around developmental themes like fine motor skills, early literacy, math readiness, and sensory play. Each kit includes materials, instructions, and tips for extending the learning at home.

Developmental Toys

Age-appropriate toys and manipulatives that support cognitive, motor, and social-emotional development. Items include building sets, shape sorters, play kitchens, musical instruments, and science exploration tools.

Bilingual Materials

Books, activity guides, and resources available in both English and Spanish. Additional languages are available through our partner library network upon request.

Library Hours and Location

The lending library is located inside the BrightRoots Community Learning Center at 123 Learning Lane, Maplewood, ST 12345. Library hours follow the center's regular schedule:

  • Monday through Friday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM (during workshop hours)

Any family is welcome to use the library, whether or not their child is enrolled in BrightRoots programs. Ask any staff member for help finding the right materials for your child's age and interests.


Printable Guides and Toolkits

Our digital resource collection is available for download at any time. These guides are created by BrightRoots educators and child development specialists and are updated regularly to reflect current research and best practices.

  • Daily Routine Cards: Visual schedule cards to help children understand and follow daily routines at home

  • At-Home Learning Activities: Seasonal activity guides with simple, low-cost ideas for hands-on learning using materials you already have
  • Bedtime Story Guides: Curated book lists by age with tips for making read-aloud time more interactive and engaging
  • Positive Discipline Quick Reference: Evidence-based strategies for managing challenging behavior with empathy and consistency
  • Kindergarten Readiness Checklist: A comprehensive checklist covering academic, social, emotional, and self-care skills children need before starting school

Our family engagement team maintains a curated list of books for parents and caregivers on topics related to child development, parenting, and family well-being. Selected titles include works on:

  • Brain Development: Understanding how early experiences shape your child's brain and what you can do to support healthy development
  • Positive Parenting: Evidence-based approaches to discipline, communication, and building strong parent-child relationships
  • Play-Based Learning: Why play is the most important work of childhood and how to create rich play environments at home
  • Social-Emotional Skills: Helping children understand and manage their emotions, build empathy, and develop healthy relationships
  • Special Needs and Early Intervention: Resources for families navigating developmental delays, disabilities, and early intervention services
  • Bilingual Families: Strategies for supporting language development in multilingual households

All titles on our recommended list are available for loan through the lending library.

BrightRoots maintains a comprehensive directory of community resources for families with young children. Our Family Engagement Coordinator can help you connect with:

Healthcare

Pediatricians, dentists, mental health providers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and early intervention programs accepting new patients in the area.

Basic Needs

Food assistance programs, diaper banks, clothing closets, emergency housing resources, and utility assistance programs available to families in our service area.

Free legal aid, benefits enrollment assistance, tax preparation services, and financial literacy programs designed for families.

Family Support

Parent support groups, home visiting programs, family counseling services, respite care, and kinship caregiver resources.


How to Access Resources

All BrightRoots resources are available free of charge to any family in the community. You do not need to be enrolled in a BrightRoots program to use the library, download guides, or access community resource referrals.
